Proper care of your eyeglasses will make your dollar investment last longer!
Oh God forbid, are you walking around with dirty lenses that show what you had for dinner last night?
Keep lenses free of smudges ~ Clean your lenses on a regular basis (and yes, that might mean a few times a day). Always use a soft micro-fiber cleaning cloth and lens cleaner to keep your anti-reflective lenses clean and scratch-free. Do not use Windex or any other household cleaners; they can damage the coatings on your lenses.
Give your frames a bath ~ Wash all around the frame, the nose pads and temples (arms) of your eyeglasses to prevent dirt and sweat accumulation whether you have a metal or plastic frame. Also, hair products such as mousse or gel may damage or discolour the finish on the temples of your frame. If you use hair spray, remove your glasses (and cover them with a towel) to prevent spraying on the lenses (which will damage the anti-reflections coating on your lenses) or the frame itself.
Store your eyeglasses properly ~ Always use a case to store your eyeglasses when they are not in use. A hard case will protect both lenses and frames from scratches or getting out of shape, or from a mishap like someone sitting on them.
Are you walking around with broken temples taped to the frame to keep them in place?
You may not think twice about walking around with dirty lenses, broken temples or dirty nose pads but the state of the glasses on your nose tells a long “tale” about the type of person you are. You are saying to others that you are indifferent, weak on details, careless, negligent, lazy, have poor time management, out of control, and basically don’t care too much what you look like so you most likely don’t care much about anything. Take your pick … does that sound like someone who would do a fabulous job on a project? If your intention is to project the image of the “Absent-minded Professor”, you’ve succeeded. However, if you are looking for a promotion ~ you are totally sabotaging your image and your chances of getting the promotion or being hired.
You may not be able to see your glasses but they are highly visible to others! They take up a dominant position on your nose, and have a definitive effect on your whole appearance. Even if you only need them from time to time, it pays to pay attention to your glasses and “the little details” that make a big difference. To project a “refined” image of someone who cares, practice proper eyeglass maintenance, to maintain full performance and maximum benefit of your eyeglasses. What about the nose pads, are they dirty or turned grey or green?
Change the nose pads ~ If you are wearing a metal frame, take a close look at the nose pads. If they have changed colour, turned yellow or grey or look dirty, ask your optician to change the nose pads on your glasses. It is relatively inexpensive. In fact, some companies will actually change them free of charge when you buy your glasses at one of their locations.Always use both hands to put on or remove your glasses ~ If you are wondering why your glasses are constantly sitting crooked on your nose, pay attention to how you put on your glasses. Are you using one-hand or two? The one-hand approach puts constant stress on your frames causing them to get out of shape and possibly causing them to break ~ use both hands!
Bring your sunglasses inside ~ Do not leave your sunglasses in the car. The extreme heat or cold can damage your lenses, causing them to warp and pop out of the frame, which may require a new set of lens at your own cost.
Visit your optician on a regular basis ~ to have your glasses re-adjusted as they may get out of shape or screws tighten as they may get loose simply from day-to-day wear. Don’t forget to ask for new nose pads and cleaning solutions. Et voilà! Your glasses are looking as good as new! Taking proper care of your eyeglasses will make your dollar investment last longer in the long run. It will also help you feel better about yourself, project confidence, and send the desired message. And who knows, perhaps even help you get the promotion or the job you so desire …or even the date and lasting relationship you are yearning for because you are showing you care about yourself and consequently that you care about others!
