It’s tough enough coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, but when hairdressers and hairstylists aren’t declared essential services, everything starts to get ‘real’ – like your 3″ grey roots! After weeks of isolation, you may be wondering whether you want to continue dyeing your tresses once your hair hero returns to work.

Personally, I’m a big advocate of “not to dye”. I have yet to meet a woman who’s satisfied with her dyed hair colour. Have you ever been awed by the beauty of a natural landscape or scenery in a forest? Have you wondered how the water, sky, mountains, forest and earth all seem to be in glorious harmony? Have you ever looked at anything in nature and thought, “Oh, dear! Mother Nature really messed up this time”. Probably not. What we were born with is our ultimate best. Why mess with perfection?
During a Personalized Colour Analysis, I demonstrate the connection between hair colour, skin tone, and eye colour. Why we look good in some colours, even fabulous – and dreadful in others. When our hair and clothing colours are in harmony with our natural colouring, we look more attractive, radiant, healthy and younger. Nothing is taking away from our own natural beauty or handsomeness. There is a feeling that everything is just right, that these colours (clothes or hair) are suited to this person’s natural landscape and they are working in complete and total harmony.
If you do decide to continue colouring your hair, choose a colour that absolutely looks fabulous and stay with it for a while. Be careful not to change your hair colour too often. It has been my experience that women who consistently change their hair colour from red to blonde to black to whatever, unknowingly send a message that they don’t know who they are or that they don’t like or accept who they are. This “grass is always greener on the other side” mentality can be an image breaker rather than an image builder.
Should you go for a warm or cool hair colour? If you don’t know, consider a Personalized Colour Analysis with me. You’ll be saved from costly mistakes and many frustrating and agonizing hours at the hair salon. For example, naturally dark-haired people with a light complexion need the contrast of darker hair to look vibrant. Blonde will only make them look washed out, bland and tired. They need a frame of dark hair to harmonize with their complexion. On the other hand, light-haired people with low skin contrast need the softness of lighter hair colours to harmonize with the softness of their complexion – otherwise they will look absolutely dreadful.
If you are on a budget (dyeing can get costly), or cannot spare the time (dyeing needs regular maintenance), consider keeping your natural hair colour. Sporting an awesome haircut (especially with grey hair) is better than showing roots or looking unkempt. People do not notice that you’re grey; they notice that your hair looks amazing, that you are confident and comfortable in your own skin and ready to handle anything!
Ready to book your Personalized Colour Analysis?
